PROVISION OF CONSULTANTS & SPECIALIST DOCTORS TO BE PLACED IN GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS IN TEN DISTRICTS OF GILGIT-BALTISTAN

Background:  Government of Gilgit-Baltistan has a network of health facilities across Gilgit-Baltistan, including District Head Quarter Hospitals (DHQ), Civil Hospitals (CH), Basic Health Units (BHU), and Rural Health Centers (RHC). The present Gilgit-Baltistan Government intends to provide state-of-the-art health services across Gilgit-Baltistan; however, the Gilgit-Baltistan Government is facing severe shortage of specialists particularly in remote districts of Gilgit-Baltistan due to non-availability/insufficiency of local consultants as this proposition is not attractive for non-local doctors due to low salary and perks. Through a Public Private Partnership, Shifa Foundation and the Gilgit-Baltistan Rural Support Programme (GBRSP) in collaboration with Gilgit-Baltistan Government have embarked on this new project. 

Key activities to be performed:

• Conduct the consultant recruiting process for the respective districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.
• After hiring process, GBRSP will hand over these doctors to Health Department for Placement and Posting to DHQ and other hospitals as per the requirement of the Health Department.

• Improved Quality of Healthcare
• Reduced Health Inequalities – The provision of consultants in remote and underprivileged areas of Gilgit-Baltistan will help reduce health inequalities between urban and rural areas.
• Increased Confidence in Public Health Institutions
• Reduced Healthcare Costs
