MATERNAL NUTRITION CAMPAIGN PROJECT

Background:  Shifa Foundation’s Maternal and Newborn Nutrition program is a nutrition focused initiative being implemented in districts across the four provinces. Its primary objective is to improve the nutritional status of malnourished women during and after pregnancy, with a special attention on managing prenatal and postnatal anaemia by IFA supplementation. The project also aims to improve newborn survival rate by strengthening Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), referral systems, medical care services and skills training.

With funding from Nutrition International, the programs also support the capacity building of government health functionaries and the integration of family planning with nutrition, with the aim of strengthening government led maternal, newborn and child health and nutrition services in KP, Punjab, Sindh and Baluchistan.

Shifa Foundation is providing administrative and logistical support to Nutrition International in implementation of Maternal Nutrition Campaign in four provinces of Pakistan.

Key activities to be performed:

• Support NI in undertaking interpersonal communication campaign in the target districts
• Support NI in Launching Maternal Nutrition Campaign at federal and provincial level
• Assist NI for coordination and engagement with government ministries and department at federal and provincial level
• Support NI for coordination and engagement with professional medical associations
• Support NI for coordination with nutrition related networks
• Organize capacity building seminars and meetings with Healthcare Providers (HCPs) and Frontline Health Workers (FHWs)
• Provide administrative and logistic support to NI for implementation of maternal nutrition campaign.

Deliverables:

• Organize all logistics for the launch events like campaign for interpersonal communication in the target districts Provincial and district level consultative meetings on IFA BNA findings and Launch of Maternal Nutrition Campaign at federal and provincial level
• Engagement with government ministries and department and federal, provincial & district level
• Coordinate and engage professional medical associations – Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Society for Obstetric and Gynecologists Pakistan (SOGP), Pakistan Pediatric Association (PPA), Pakistan Nursing Federation (PNF), Pakistan Nutritionist and Dietic Society (PNDS) etc.
• Coordinate and engage nutrition related networks like Scaling Up Nutrition Civil Society Alliance (SUNCSA) Pakistan, Pakistan Reproductive Health Network (PRHN), All Pakistan Women Association (APWA), SUN Academia and Research (SUNAR) Network
• Organize in conducting consultative meetings with these networks for maternal nutrition at federal / provincial and district level
• Organize capacity building seminars and meetings with Healthcare Providers (HCPs) and Frontline Health Workers (FHWs)
